Raman Bhatia, Board Member
Past District Governor Raman Bhatia, a Member of RC Delhi Midtown has been associated with Rotary since the last 45 years. He was Club President in 1982-83 and Dist. Governor in 1993-94. 25 of these have been spent working towards a ‘Polio Free World’ a dream which would be realized very soon. The first in Asia to be recognized for his untiring efforts in Polio Eradication with the ‘International Service Award for a Polio Free World’ he served as a Member of the India National Polio Plus Committee from 1995 to 2015, the longest by anyone. Over the last 15 years he has been also committed to rehabilitation of the Polio afflicted and others with physical disabilities working with St.Stephen’s Hospitals Dr. Mathew Verghese. He now also helps out with sponsoring ‘Clubfoot Disability Eradication’ clinics in different Government Hospitals of India through CURE India International Trust.
Rtn. Bhatia currently serves as Managing Trustee of the Rtn. Naqshband Institute For Physically Challenged a Charitable Trust serving to rehabilitate the physically disadvantaged and Vice President and Trustee of Anath Shishu Palan Trust of India an Orphanage and Home for abandoned children at Hardwar which started in 2001 when he was introduced to Baba Hari Dass who initiated him into the work at Sri Ram Ashram,Hardwar.
For his commitment to Community Development and Social causes he has been given Rotary’s single most important award, the ‘Service above Self’ award. A good presenter and orator he has addressed many Rotary gatherings in India and abroad in his capacity as Rotary International(R.I) Presidents Representative to Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa , Kenya and in California, US’. He is often invited to speak at Leadership Summits and on Corporate Social Responsibility.
He retired from the businesses of Special Steel Manufacturing, Liquified Petroleum Gas Distribution, Gas Stations Management and High Tension Power Distribution and Transmission after a 45 year satisfying, useful career. Service to the lesser privileged is now his passion, full time, as he firmly believes that ‘it is in giving that you receive’ and ‘he profits most who serves best’.
